With 2020 just around the corner, the AIPP is gearing up for an exciting year ahead.
The introduction of a host of new and improved facilities and services for members is on its way, along with a concerted drive to expand the membership base to create an even stronger and more dynamic institute.
We’re committed to assisting members in their creative growth, ongoing professional education and networking via a diverse membership that has continued to grow strongly throughout 2019.
The focus for 2020 is on ensuring members will benefit from changes to the membership structure, from the AIPP’s delivery of updated services, and the drive for greater involvement in the broader photographic community (more about all these in a moment.)
Before looking at the exciting things ahead, it’s worth briefly noting 2019 was a very busy year for the AIPP, with numerous events staged around the country by hard-working councils.
Among the new initiatives was streamlining how we communicate with you via the AIPP blog – which you’re reading now – and the e-news newsletters designed to keep you better informed and communicate with the wider photographic community.
We’re committed to communicate more frequently with members about the AIPP’s many activities nationally, as well as providing broader content covering a wider range of topics relating to all aspects of professional photography.
We’re also pleased to announce Ben has accepted the role as our new treasurer.
So What’s Ahead for 2020?
We’ll kick-off virtually immediately, with a new-look website to greatly enhance both the presentation and navigation as befitting an organisation of visual professionals.
Importantly, it’s designed to be easier for our members to navigate (yes!!)
A new member dashboard is included and the new site will make it significantly easier for visitors to find what they want when looking for a professional photographer.
There’s also a revised and more efficient membership management system in the back end.
Many more events are planned for 2020 with an even greater emphasis on live-streaming.
This will further contribute to the growing AIPP resource library available to members.
Another exciting development for 2020 is our partnering with the Aperture Australia photography conference.
Aperture Australia was first held in 2018 and was an immediate success, even more so in 2019.
It’s the largest photography conference in the southern hemisphere.
The 2020 event will now include the Australian Professional Photography Awards judging (with the potential to showcase winning images to the expected large numbers of visitors) and a trade show expected to attract leading suppliers of imaging products and services.
The venue is the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre with APPA Judging from August 15-17th and AVPA judging on Sunday the 16th , so start thinking about your entries (well, maybe wait until you’ve finished partying the New Year in!)
The merging of two highly respected industry giants on the same weekend is a massive step in the right direction. Together we’re making photography accessible to everyone who is interested.– Glen McKimmin, Aperture Australia director
There are also the state awards to plan for earlier in the year. And, as always, these are the perfect opportunity to try out your creative ideas ahead of APPA.
Help Us Help You
With so much going on over the coming months, the new year’s message is: get involved. Or for those already active in AIPP events: get even more involved if you can!
Everything the institute is planning or initiating in 2020 is designed to help members at all levels to grow.
It’s a two-way street and the institute’s strength also comes from the participation – and success – of its members.
It may be cliché but we’re all in this together and, in a profession that continues to undergo major changes, working together within the AIPP is more essential than ever.
Needless to note, the ongoing support of current members is greatly appreciated and valued.
The AIPP admin team is taking a short break from December 20th and will be back on deck from January 6th ready to implement the important changes and improvements in store for 2020.
Our sincere thoughts are with those who have been affected – either directly or indirectly – by the bushfires currently raging in various parts of Australia.
Please stay safe.
Finally, to all our members, sponsors, supporters and friends, the AIPP wishes you a very Merry Christmas and…get ready for an eventful 2020!
