Introducing the APVP ReFrame Online Video Awards

Thursday 25th June, 2020

Entries open July 7th 2020

The Awards Committee and the APVP National Committee are delighted to announce the ReFrame Awards 2020, welcoming entries from July 7.

COVID-19 pandemic may have cancelled our in-person 2020 Australian Video Producer Awards (AVPA) but it can’t keep us down! We’ve re-framed the situation and created a bigger and better online awards format for you.

ReFrame Awards are designed to attract video producers of all levels from all over Australia and across the globe. The Awards Committee are proud to introduce five new categories, each with two sub-categories that an entry may be submitted into.

ReFrame is open to both AIPP/APVP members AND non-members and there is no limit to the number of entries you’re permitted to submit.

One FREE Entry for AIPP/APVP Members

We’re encouraging as many of you as possible – including those who have never entered an AIPP award before – to demonstrate your collective imagination and expertise.

In line with this concept, every AIPP member will receive ONE COMPLIMENTARY ENTRY to the ReFrame video awards.

That’s one free entry for all Accredited, Affiliate, General and Student members. There’s no excuse not to join us!

ReFrame Video Awards One Free Entry

If you’re not currently an AIPP financial member but would like to participate in this exciting online awards program, you can join or renew your membership today. We’d love to have you in our community of passionate video producers.

All AIPP members are welcome to enter the ReFrame Awards even if you’ve never entered our national awards before.

ReFrame Online Video Awards

We’ve tried to make these awards exciting, challenging, and as different as possible from our usual annual awards – yet the objective of both remains the same: to showcase Australia’s best contemporary professional video producers.

ReFrame Awards Categories

There are five categories on offer with two subcategories in each: a total of TEN categories to enter – a total of TEN category winners.

FIVE Categories

  • Best Editing
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Sound Design
  • Best Colour Grading
  • Best Showreel

Each category above has TWO subcategories:

Wedding and Commercial.

ABOVE: The five Wedding subcategories in the ReFrame awards
ABOVE: The five Commercial subcategories in the ReFrame awards

The Showreel category entries can NOT exceed two (2) minutes in length.

All other entries in all other categories can not exceed ten (10) minutes in length.

Each entry must be accompanied by a two-minute excerpt of your video. This does not mean you need to re-edit to create a two-minute clip – just two minutes of any portion of your video. If you are a finalist, this will be used and aired at the awards event.

Except for the SHOWREEL Category, please note NO branding or company logos of the applicant are to be visible in the entry.

You can submit a single video into multiple categories. There are no limits to the number of entries you may enter or the number of categories you may enter the same entry into.

One important difference between this competition and AVPA is that any entry COMPLETED on or after August 5, 2015 may be entered.

More Information

You can read more about how to enter ReFrame on our How To Enter page of the website.

The 10 SHORTLISTED videos in each category will be announced on the 2nd September 2020.

The entrant’s video will be publicly displayed on the AIPP AVPA Awards website with an embedded link provided by the entrant.

Awards Screening & Announcements

On the awards night, the THREE FINALISTS will be announced in each category. The two-minute cut will be aired.

Category Winner

The winners of each category will be determined by the highest scoring video. If two or more videos receive the same final score, those entries will be reviewed and judged by a panel to determine the winner.

The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

Judging System

Each video is assessed by a panel of three judges who will review and independently score the entry online.

Each judge scores the video out of 100 and the panel’s average is the final score.

The HIGHEST SCORE in the category is deemed the CATEGORY WINNER.

Competing against many of the best video professionals in the world is the achievement of a lifetime, a career milestone like no other. The only way you can earn this title is with an exceptional video that delights and excites a judging panel of your peers.

Prizes will be awarded for each category winner, 10 prizes in total, thanks to the generosity of our ever-supportive trade partners.

Thank you and we look forwarding to seeing your entries roll in!
