Having their photo grace the cover of a magazine is a lofty dream for many but AIPP Master Photographer and member of the Board, Joshua Holko, has managed to do so across two prominent titles during the July/August period of 2020.
It’s always thrilling to take the cover of any magazine. It sort of makes the edition my own. Taking two covers in the same month is truly wonderful.– Joshua Holko
Australian Geographic chose to feature an image of an emperor penguin chick photographed by famed Australian polar photographer Joshua on sea ice in Gould Bay, Antarctica.
The July/August 2020 edition of digital magazine, Wildlife Photographic, also selected a Holko photograph for their cover. Joshua took the image of a rare and threatened pallas cat in a remote region of Mongolia late in 2019.
A second pallas cat photo of Joshua’s was one of 25 images just announced as a semi-finalist in the Wild category of the AIPP’s inaugural Silver Lining Awards. Joshua has 5 semi-finalist images in the category. See the complete gallery of semi-finalists here.
Silver Lining finalists are being revealed on Friday 24th July and overall competition winners (across 12 categories) via live announcement on Thursday 30th July at 7pm AEST.
Some 3000 entires were submitted into the AIPP’s first ever online awards, born after COVID-19 restrictions forced the cancellation of all state and national AIPP print awards for 2020.
