With the Silver Lining Awards now open, we hope February has had your creative neurons firing. In this month’s e-News, we’ll remind you of the fantastic opportunities for feedback on your prospective awards entries. We’ve also got some information on Sony’s upcoming film festival, a series of workshops in Kakadu with Peter Eastway, and a celebration of this month’s member milestones. The Operations Team have certainly been busy this month assisting members with logins, event purchases and all the other fun stuff that goes on behind the scenes. We’d like to say thank you for your continued support and we welcome any feedback you may have for us.

Silver Lining Awards

It’s been all systems go here in AIPP Awards land, with the Silver Lining Awards 2021 opening at the start of February. It’s been wonderful to see members and non-members alike registering for this comp and we are welcoming students and international entrants as well. Don’t delay, register your Silver Lining Awards account today!

NEW and DIFFERENT second time round

The big news about the SLAs 2021 is that we have changed the game so that every single image entered into the competition receives a score and written comments from AIPP-trained judges. This means the cost of entry doesn’t just buy you the chance to compete for some wonderful prizes, it also buys you genuine feedback on your photography.

Image Critiques On Now!

AIPP members are invited to attend online Image Critique sessions prior to entering images into the Silver Lining Awards. We hosted three successful sessions last week and have another three to go this week. These sessions are offered to our members for free and are hugely educational and enjoyable to watch. With attendees describing the judges’ advice as “invaluable”, what have you go to lose? Book your ticket right now!

APS Approved: A First for an AIPP Awards

In a new move for AIPP, we have worked with the Australian Photographic Society (APS) to have the Silver Lining Awards APS approved. This means that APS members are welcome to enter the SLAs and, any image that receives a score of 70 or above, are eligible to count as national acceptances towards Australia Photographic Society Honours LAPS, AAPS. We hope that by working with APS, many more photographers will find the SLAs appealing to enter – remember that this competition is open to all!

One Week Until Entries Close

Entry to the Silver Lining Awards is open until Monday 1st March at 6pm AEDT. There’s no need to leave your entry to the last minute, hour or day…jump online right now and enter your fabulous work! Eleven exciting categories, an AMAZING prize pool donated by our dedicated Trade Partners (we’re updating it all time, so check back daily!) and feedback on every single image you enter – what’s not to love?!

AIPP members receive one free entry into the competition using the special discount code which landed in their inboxes. If you need help locating the code, drop a line to awards@aipp.com.au and we’ll help out.

New Board Structure

In case you missed it, we recently announced a new Board structure, one that has emerged from the recent innovations and the introduction of the chapter system. Under this new structure, each of the board members will focus on specific areas of expertise, while the incoming Chair, to be announced shortly, will concentrate on connecting AIPP with the wider arts community. This new structure will assist AIPP in building stronger connections with arts organisations and funding bodies around the country.

For further information, here’s a video post from Board member Louise Bagger.
