Hello from Emily and Mel, your new Accredited Member Liaisons.
At AIPP, our accredited members are the institute’s Very Important Photographers, our VIPs. We recognise the importance of serving our VIPs in a unique way, which has lead to the initiation of a new service which can help you maximise the value of your accredited membership.
Melissa Wood and I have taken on the role of being your Accredited Member Liaisons, which is really a fancy way of saying we are a conduit of communication between our VIPs and the organisation. We’re here to advocate for you and support you as we embrace the new chapter structure, and we can assist you in joining chapters and creating your own (it’s super easy). We are also here to encourage you to spread the word to lovers of photography and videography on how they too can join.
Melissa gained her Associate Degree of Photography in 2011, and was a finalist in the National Portrait Prize the same year. She has been a member of AIPP since 2018, joined the Victorian Council in 2019, the Online Content Committee in 2020 and was nominated into the position of Victorian Co-Ordinator with this year’s restructure.
Melissa is known for her energy in “getting stuff done”, is a gifted multitasker and will often be found behind the scenes keeping people on task and keeping the energy levels high. She loves supporting others in achieving their goals, whether it’s cheering on a friend at the finish line of a half marathon or staying up late to make sure a deadline is met.
I, Emily, gained my Diploma of Illustrative Photography in 1999 and missed out on the benefits of AIPP for many years of my professional career as a newspaper photographer, until I gained my accreditation in 2014. From there I joined Victorian Council in 2017, and after two terms took on the role of President until this year’s restructure. The restructure has allowed me to step up as the Chair of the Advocacy Committee, and focus on ways to respond to a year that affected many in the creative industries.
The secret to my energy is coffee. I love nothing more than encouraging others to take bold steps and break out of their comfort zones. I believe that sometimes that bravery can manifest in just being yourself, especially in business. We all have our own super powers.
As your liaisons, we will be in contact regularly via email and the blog. This message will be the first in a steady stream of ways to support, encourage and help you in your roles as the leaders of our greater membership cohort.
You are the heart of our institute, and we look forward being part of the success of AIPP, together with you.
